I'm afraid it's probably not.

Why not?
Do you mean everyone has given up?

I've no idea about everyone. I just meant that, for reasonable reasons, my pair won't be producing anything.

I don't think we're going to produce anything, either...

What?! After all that debate about sonnet crowns and farting around with spreadsheets surely you could at least come up with a limerick or something. Shame on those who don't manage a poem, unless there are seriously extenuating circumstances.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun working with Moth. I think we've got something to be proud of.

I think Nicky and I are going to have something, except that she's just gone to ground at the most crucial point, and I'm starting to worry that she was a double agent, working for Brian, all along.

Nope, no-one working for me David, including Travis unfortunately . . . Looks like we won't be submitting after all.

It's not like we have a polished gem - have you guys not got drafts you could post? But that would be ignoring the Competition aspect of things. That's a suggestion.

The impression I get is that some pairs really haven't even started.

I did suggest a mid-December deadline did I not?

If it would work better for Brian and Travis, Ros and Steve, Ian and Vincent, change it. Sounds reasonable.

I think that there are many variables at play when collaborating, time being one of the most important, natural chemistry being of high importance too. Plus an agreed understanding of the pace of banter/ production and the "rules" of editing the other's words. It's exciting and challenging, I have found anyway.

Being face to face with the one you're working AND having the text in hand, would be so much easier. I am guessing.

Bump the deadline if it is helpful to get more poems posted. My opinion.

I'm all for extending the deadline, for obvious reasons:

brianedwards wrote:Nope, no-one working for me David, including Travis unfortunately . . . Looks like we won't be submitting after all.

Also, I feel very much committed to the collaboration. I just haven't been able to produce anything yet.

Yeah by all means, people should post something when they can. No point in giving up because you couldn't make time for it.

That's for sure. I've actually found it very enjoyable, and in some ways easier than writing on my own. It's great having someone else to take up the slack - when you get stuck you can just flip it back to your partner and ask for ideas. There's less pressure. And it's always surprising to learn how your partner sees things, sometimes very differently. I'd definitely do it again (if anyone's interested, gimme a shout).

Yes, Nicky and I would like to ask for a deferment too. We're almost there on two things we just started, having finally abandoned a month's worth of getting nowhere with our original idea.

Perhaps we could get the grand unveiling to coincide with Nash's Christmas Jamboree of Joy (which I very much hope you're going to instigate again this year, Nasher - I really enjoyed it last year.)

Funnily enough David, I was thinking about that thread just last night. It'd be good to start it up again wouldn't it? I think we started it about a week before Christmas last year. Same again?

Well, I'll certainly look out for that this year. Great idea.
