Congrats to JJ

Postby Firebird » Wed Sep 28, 2016 10:11 pm

Here's a link to a poem of JJ's that won a competition in February of this year. He modestly didn't mention it. I remember it well.

Many congratulations JJ.

Cheers,

Yes, well done, JJ. We had a hilarious falling-out with the IBPC years ago... ho hum. Pen Shells, eh? They've been going a while.

Ros
Rosencrantz: What are you playing at? Guildenstern: Words. Words. They're all we have to go on.

My sincere apologies to all for failing to respond to your support. I've just seen this post, which surprises me because I often look through these pages.

The win came as a welcome surprise and I didn't mention it because of the PG fallout with the IBPC. I wasn't really sure what to say. Ros explained it to me when I first joined and I've read the said thread since. The comp is operated by different people now, though how much influence still remains is anybody's guess. It's also a smaller comp, mainly due to the collapse of some forums. Nevertheless, I always feel honoured to receive a nom from the members.

Thanks Tristan for mentioning it and all of you for the suggestions along the way. If I'd known this thread existed I'd have mentioned the other successes. Once again I apologise for being so remiss, given the help I've received with all of the poems. I only post at two sites, this one and Penshells. Both forums have helped enormously.

Ros, I've been a member at PenShells for an age, since its inception in fact, but dropped out of circulation for a few years.

IBPC Results

The Price of Wool ...2nd place April 2016
Watching Dad...H.M. May 2016
The Deaths of St Winefride...3rd July 2016 This one surprised me most. The weird legend caught their eye.
When the Starfish Gathered...2nd August 2016

Thanks for the kind words and help.

Believe it or not I was looking for that list of potential publishers you posted when I asked how you guys knew where to send your poems. I know it's here somewhere but can't find it, AND I forgot to copy and print. As I scanned down the page I suddenly saw Tristan's post. Very pleased I did. So, one thing often leads to another. :)

To be honest JJ, I thought you might have missed the thread, but decided not to PM you for fear that I might have embassarred you in some way and thought it was best to leave it. Anyway, really pleased I didn't.

Cheers,

Yes, I had missed the thread and honestly wasn't embarrassed. Well, just a little bit, but not about your post. I felt awkward mentioning the IBPC when I'd been informed that PG had fallen out with the admin of the site for one reason or another. So, assuming this was possibly a sore point I kept quiet. I wanted to tell everybody, then hummed and harred, to and froed, moved this way and that, eventually saying nothing. Very pleased YOU did.

Congratulations once again on your recent publication. Well done indeed, Sir.

Best

JJ

It's too long ago to be much of a sore point, JJ, and the whole thing was so ludicrous I just remember it with bemused mirth. We won't ostracise you for mentioning them.

In fact the PG/IBPC thing was so long ago that it was before my time here. I think It is now only remembered by a few old veterans of the First Afghan War drinking brandy and sitting in the leather seats of the Diogenes Club.

Colonel Curruthers: "I say, Binky, do you recall that IBPC thing?"
Brigadier Hyde-White: "Yes, we only got there after we dealt with that ambush in the Kyber Pass. Terrible business."
