'Contained in every word is every other word.' Jorge Louis Borges

That nobody picks up a dictionary,
and looks up the word 'dictionary',
is testament
to our understanding
of how it works.

But let's just say,
however stupid it may seem,
we did lose confidence
in what it is
and tried to find it
amongst its pages,
at least this book
doesn't fall apart.

Perhaps consider a third 'dictionary' in S1 instead of 'it'.
Does rather beg the question as to whether the word is in the dictionary at all.

I think S1 sets up expectations that S2 does not meet, and they both seem to have a different tone.
(If S2 is the preferred voice, then perhaps S1 would work better framed as a question).

Not too keen on the title (why not 'a good book'?)

Regards, Not.

Afraid I couldn't understand S2 either. It's probably against the rules, but could you maybe help us with a paraphrase?

In S1, do you need 'of how it works'?

Out of curiosity, where in Borges is the quote from? I had never seen it.

Best,
Joao

Yep. You got me Tristan. I did look it up. The word dictionary is listed, thank the Lord. Funny little poem that is not as lightweight as it first appears. Super concise/deep provoking piece, which is definitely your style. :D
