How many poets does it take to change a light bulb?

After hearing Nash's excellent recording, I've cobbled together some old recordings and lobbed them into a audio player.

Bare in mind these are very old recordings, I'm just awaiting a new Mic.

I'm thinking audio/recorded poems should be much more a feature on here? It's not difficult really. FREE software and a decent microphone for a tenner and you're away.

I'd be happy to post a dummies guide to recording audio. Or perhaps Nash could get involved?

Cheer Kris,

That link's brilliant! Damn, you've got a good reading voice. It's really good to hear some of yours being read, it adds another depth to them.

So, is that player your own creation or what? I want one.

I completely agree. That one of mine was my first, but I definitely want to try out some more. As a complete beginner I'm not sure what help I can give, but I'll gladly help out in any way I can. It would be great to hear other people here too.

How about it folks? Let's hear yer.

Nash.

Yep, good idea. We do have a PG iPod, but I don't know how easy it is to use. A beginner's guide to something simple would be great.

Kris,
that link is great!
I especially liked hearing "Carp". Well read.
The format is so simple and tidy. Brilliant.
More voices, yes, good idea.

It's one I've had laying around for ages Nash. It's specifically web based so you'd need some web hosting? I can send you the files no problem though.

Ros, the situation on here at the moment is, Nicki has to receive the audio track and then upload it into the player from the admin. There is probably an audio add-on for phpBB (the software this forum is run on) somewhere that allows people to upload their own audio? But that comes with it's own set of problems. People uploading bad quality files, inappropriate files, files that are way too large etc.

So it'd just be a case of a wee tutorial on how to record your own audio. Then email it to either me or Nicki or you Ros?

Can you really buy a decent mic for a tenner?

If so, I'd be grateful if someone could recommend one.
Having read a few amazon reviews I'd just assumed that unless you spend big bucks you only get rubbish.

Geoff,

Nash recommended this one, and I found it spot on for a tenner. Plug and play no probs, More than adequate.

I bought this one, Geoff:

Please bear in mind that I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing but it seems to do the job. I recorded that train one on it and it seemed to come out ok.

That said, it's had some shitty reviews for skyping etc.

But for recording a simple voice with a few BG effects it's fine, no background crackle or any of that nonsense.

A good option here might be soundcloud. It is possible to upload audio files and then embed the player into webpages or forums. They have a guide to creating a new tag to use on the forum to embed the sound file. Maybe we could have an audio forum to post audio?

We could link in a sound cloud recording at the bottom when we submit a poem. Suz did that a few weeks back.

The advantage with a Soundcloud tag is the player is available right here similar to the way we can embed YouTube video.

Good idea, Ben.

I think a soundcloud tag is a great idea.
Soundcloud is easy to use and audio files certainly adds pleasurable elements.

I use my iPhone and need no mic. So easy.
