Re: Lucian Freud

Thanks Seth. Interesting that you prefer the photographed version. I'll bear that in mind with future drawings. I always photograph paintings, as I don't want to accidentally paint my scanner, but have tended to scan drawings to avoid the inevitable distortion from the camera being too close. Photog...

Re: Lucian Freud

Yes, blaming the effing scanner again because when I photograph, I get distortion of the shapes and can't get the paper white enough (it IS bright white inkjet paper). So here, just for you, is the photographed version. It's better at showing the subtlety of the shading, but as a representation of t...

Re: Morning Scene

Another charming picture. The blue of the convolvulus is lovely. You need to buy rice paper in 50 meter rolls! Too frustrating to run out. This is why I mostly do drawings on photocopying paper. I buy bargain packs of 500 sheets at a time. And when I do paintings, I use the backs of cereal packets; ...

Re: Lucian Freud

Hi Lake - this one took about an hour and a half, I think. Never really time them, so I'm not quite sure. I go to the art class because the teacher there is a much better artist than I am, so there's always something to learn. Been going for years. Still learning! So is she - she recently asked me t...

Re: Lucian Freud

Thanks Lake.

Yes, I draw most days. Sometimes pics like this, just for my own amusements; sometimes commissioned illustrations for this and that; sometimes random paintings at an art class I attend every week.

Lucian Freud

Image

Derwent Onyx pencil on photo-copying paper. Usual problems with the scanner flattening stuff out, but this gives you a rough idea of the sketch.

Re: New Branches

Lake, if you don't have the right type of black ink you can make a good substitute by grinding up some sticks of charcoal and mixing with water. Ordinary watercolours will work for colour. So long as you have rice paper and a few of the correct brushes, you have all you need. Rice paper always rumpl...

Creative writing tutor, judge of many poetry competitions, fabulous poet and novelist. I'm gobsmacked that you haven't come across her, Mic. An expanded version of her review will be appearing in 'Tears in the Fence' in due course.

Ah, yes - could well be gas pipes.

Looks to me like the letters spell HERALD. Could be wrong.

Attractive patchwork picture. I'm intrigued by that pipework on the side of the porch. What on earth is that?

Re: Call for submissions: Deadline April 11th

I submitted (a picture) to this and just learnt today that it's been accepted. They've sent a contract and everything. Moral of the story: don't assume just because you haven't heard anything in a year that a piece must have been rejected. I assumed it had, but luckily didn't submit it anywhere else...

Re: PG Anthology?

It's only a vanity publication if people pay to submit. As presumably this won't be the case, it's not vanity. My view on how this could be done, for what it's worth, is this: 1. A mod puts a sticky at the top of every single thread on the forum saying that an anthology is being compiled, and would ...

Re: PG Anthology?

Yes, I have experience. I've edited anthologies before. Whether people would be happy for me to do this is another matter, as I've never been particularly active on this forum so people might feel they don't really 'know' me. :?

Serpentine launch day

Serpentine has finally arrived! You can read Neil Marr’s blog about the book here; try out the first couple of chapters here; and buy directly from the publisher here. Also available from all the usual ebook stores. Read, buy, enjoy! :D
