Re: Splat

mmm, everyone seems o be having a good laugh about this one, so I'll reserve serious criticism, except perhaps to suggest that efforts such as these, as fun as they may be, don't really belong on the Experienced board. B. and the word shit is neither a prerequisite nor an indicator of working class ...

Re: Murder Goose

I'm afraid I agree with barrie on all counts here.
If you are serious about poetry (and I suspect you are) may I suggest a return to the basics.
There are a couple of mildly interesting things here and you obviously have a lot to say, but it needs channelling.

Re: Number Theory

Stuart,
whilst I won't claim to be an expert
on the the work of Mr Holub,
I will say this
with confidence:
if you were to meet Miroslav
and told him you thought
his poems were about intellect
he'd probably tell you to
fuck off
in Czech.

I always found him quite ponderous and dull, by the way.

Re: How confusing does it have to be?

Stuart, I believe you are expecting. Well, congratulations. Fatherhood is a wonderful thing. Providing you aren't as uptight about it as you appear to be about all things poetic. This isn't meant as confrontation, merely an observation that you do take things a mite seriously and that is reflected i...

Re: Passions

Hello, welcome

The beginners board is one down,
the intros board is four up and
the forum rules are one up from that.

Deal with all that, then we'll talk.

Re: Number Theory

alexander, ahem, this is rubbish. There I've said it. It is lacking in poetic device, originality and inspiration. And I'm being nice. I tell you this because I love you and want you to love yourself more. OK, so, what do? Let's face it, it's very difficult to have an original thought isn't it? We ar...

A spara was a type of shield used by the Persian Army.

The crap that has collected in my brain over the years disturbs me.

Thanks all.

Yes, not a poem about pizza. Thanks Elphin. Who the feck would really wanna read summat as dull as that?
No, not my trade, I'm afraid. Poetry is about life.

Cheers.

Re: I Pay I Pay I Pay

If you're writing to be published you'll only ever have superficial success, if any at all.

You and I think about poetry very differently, clearly.

Re: I Pay I Pay I Pay

I'll be sure to say when I do, but really, who knows what the hell works and what doesn't, eh? Some of what I believe to be my best poems, have been rejected hundreds of times. Literally. And then other stuff that I have considered average has been published and praised. That's why, as I said elsewh...

Re: I Pay I Pay I Pay

So much touchiness round here! Sorry Kris. Your poem is an interesting exercise. I do that kind of thing all the time, muck around with the work of an admired poet. But, that's all they are, exercises. not really fit for public consumption. Never claimed to be a genius. And i am a fan of Mr Armitage...

Yeah, like I said, clever.

Not Simon's best either.

Re: I Pay I Pay I Pay

I'd lose the preamble for a start. I'll decide for myself whether it's affectionate or topical. I think you're bogged down in language and trying to sound clever. This is another collection of words lacking a pulse. No music here either, despite the forced rhymes. I think you should change pov. Make...

Re: A History of Pizza

Satire wasn't intended!! A poem about pizza wasn't even intended! Though, this is actually based on some fact. I saw a documentary a while back, on which featured a Pizza historian from NYU!! Truth, I swear. You want the history, look him up! And sorry, don't do Goodfellas! Damn, I got told off for ...

Re: Seriola quinqueradiata

barrie, my question was, as an art form, do you think poetry is more closely related to prose fiction, painting or music? Not talking specific poems or poets. But the art form. For you, as an aspiring poet, which one? It's a fundamental question that all poets must ask themselves, I believe. Go on. ...

Re: Ground floor

Stuart, thanks

Loved the first stanza. Then got lost.
Not in the meaning. I think I can glean your intention. (And if I'm wrong, well, that's your problem.)
But in why you appear to be trying to deliberately confuse in S2?
