Re: Arousing Variations

"Not with a bang but a whimper."

I've got a lot of responses to your crits dangling in the breeze,
not even a shadow of adherence to rules of debate?

I always knew my poems would not have universal appeal,
but hopefully for more plausible reasons than you've thrown up - RC

Re: Arousing Variations

Perry - This woman was someone I knew and had an eight year relationship with. The description is not objectification because I'm not isolating parts of the body of someone unknown to me. Beauty is skin deep - such a cliche doesn't have enough relevance to even enter into the argument Pleasure in be...

Wreckage (was Full Wallop)

So stupid, how do you lose a job? You're just a liar, stupid, so stupid; as I'm outspread on the wood floor, her barefoot kicks find my ribs, repeatedly, like all the papers say, rage fortified her movements fully. I straggled up, sore-wounded body, flayed, betrayed-again soul, full gasp, grabbed h...

Re: Retirement

I think it all sits quite well in the original, the nicely rendered particulars in a portrait
of a character committed to an ordered, particular routine. A nice touch with "devouring"
the newspaper after placing it between the fork and knife. Enjoyed this - RC

I did a musical version of this, but doesn't seem that the site allows audio - shame - poetry is half in the sound of the words. - RC

jj - She was an actress I saw in a movie that took place in Madrid, but, for the life of me, I can't remember her name or the name of the movie.
State of my memory at this age, I'll keep trying to google her. - RC

Lady from Madrid (revision)

Her eyes flash revolution at the first shot fired, the struggle re-defined. Her strategies sprawl outside the standard lines, in variations of the absurd. She speaks in tones, a desert sound, chimes, Japanese gongs. Her thought vibrates comfortably, full risk, at far reaches, with unheard of solutio...

Re: Arousing Variations

You're coming up with sweeping statements that ignore basic human nature. I can't argue with you, you have some kind of negative approach to male-female relationships that makes it useless to defend the obvious. Chill out - drop the dead serious shtick and try to enjoy yourself - we only got a short...

Re: Arousing Variations

Idealization and Reality - this would go into the natural attraction between men and women. Thought comes into it, but it's mainly an emotional process and it doesn't adhere to anything written as a code of behavior - and it includes emotional/sexual attraction between one man and another man or bet...

Arousing Variations

The woman I knew moved languorously, all limb lovely; feelings within her moved as well, outpacing wind-gone leaves, spinning away from grasping bough, her thought whirled in its bright container. Swift and gliding, so she was; I halt by the memory, captive to her dizzying motion, shadowed by her ci...

Re: Losing People (A didactic poem)

I agree with some others here that the message is an important one and needs to be heard. What's missing for me is a concrete reference point, where, who, when, why - rather than a generalized polemic. One only need hear "Warsaw Ghetto" and the specific scene, situation, outcome is recalled. Aside f...

Re: Good Old Fashioned Courage v4.

Not - The erratic syllable/metric count doesn't bother me much - it reads pretty smoothly and is a piece of fun - but this one spot seems awkward in its break: For though I lie prone, pallid, weak, yet see my family have all gathered round about Maintaining a ten syllable count, which most of the ot...

A Couple Things

I want to live in the deepest corner of your midnight prayer where chanting provides the only light. Wish a whisper upon a wish, home again home again, under a friendly star. I recall tripping through teenage leaps of faith, when we shook out all delay, and took to the road on all night drives that ...
