Re: Come on, folks! - this forum, posting and critting

Hello David, my apologies, there is a "seem" in there. I was being overly-sensitive I think. I did take down the poem before you mentioned that you were going to comment on it because I didn't want anyone to feel forced to do so. Sorry for the outburst, I'll probably take a break from the internet f...

Re: Come on, folks! - this forum, posting and critting

Hello Ros, the "passive-aggressive" line was a quote from David. And so if I have offended anyone in the past then I do apologise I think one of my comments was called "a damning remark" in the past.

Re: Come on, folks! - this forum, posting and critting

Okay this isn't a moan or a rant, but it is actually a polite request that my membership is deleted and consequent poems attached to my name be removed. If this is true: "After a while, the ignoring starts to seem like a passive-aggressive act." Then I just don't think this website is for me. I can'...

no, that was a horrible suggestion Nash. original is perfect. the charm was in the long title and the short quirkiness of the poem.

Re: New Challenge

Hello Seth, this is a good idea, think I prefer this to the competition which has somewhat deflated. I've been in 4 and 20 a few times, they quite flexible as long as it's not over 20 words. Nash I remember that poem from a while back and loved it - you can get it to exactly 20 words if you split th...

Joe I think we're talking about the same thing. the " desire to communicate to what you do that it will touch people " I'm calling the "voice" in the poem.

Hello Macavity, in truth I'm not sure I like the thought of this family all going to hell - especially when they are doing everyday things like eating sweets and wearing wellies. I think I can see that you're deliberately trying to achieve this juxtaposition - the domestic turns into a horror, but I...

Re: Come on, folks! - this forum, posting and critting

I think that this is a good point to bring up Ros. I've noticed that people have said that if they don't like a poem, then they refrain from posting on that particular poem. However, I think that if someone doesn't like a poem it doesn't mean that the poem is 'bad'. In fact it's interesting to see w...

Mic this sentence: The way the body drifts, forgets itself sometimes, travels miles and how the pulse this heart emits, although submerged, will sound the body home; it’s this. is wonderful. I think you've had some good crits, I definitely prefer the latest version. I did have a think about the " le...

Re: Q

Hello Macavity,

This has a real WC Williams quality to it - the images and the astute social observations. Especially the "red wellies" "garden" "umbrella", which do a lot of 'talking' in the poem. Are these queues going back through time?

I just tried to purchase this - the billing address I put a UK address because the bank needs to check this, and for postal address I put an Indonesian address. I logged into the final step on paypal and a notice came up saying "residents of the UK may not send purchases to Indonesia". Is this a new...

Re: Thoughts on a Falling Star (reworked)

hello Geoff, if I'm not mistaken this is another take on the 'falling star' poem that breaks the rules- by Wayne Burrows? this is great Geoff: "Stars fail, burn out; they do not fall," how our language fails us and the meteoroid that was mistakenly described (crumbs I always used meteor before readi...

Re: Into Something Rich and Strange

hello Petrichor, I don't think I've read one of your poems before. Is this a metaphor for a relationship that has drifted apart - the couple hasn't necessarily changed but somehow they've still drifted and yet there's hope again at the end - something new to spark up the old relationship, or the 'a ...

Yes, I think I'm persuaded by those damning remarks about section II sorry if that was me David, I'm discovering that nicotine withdrawl is not always as easy or 'enjoyable' as Allen Carr makes it out to be :D I think I agree about the original, it has a mysterious feel that the new version I think...

Hello Seth, I had to google the place, the Fairy Island and Sithean Mor, the fairy mound, I've just read one of the stories about the place (I have read accounts before about fairies dancing in circles, one boy said he entered their circle and was transported to their world, and then returned, but 1...

Hello David, I agree with Pleides about number II. I feel as if detracts more than adds, for example, are the wizards in white coats scientists and if so, I can't see them fitting in with the pint? In number 1, this bit I like: "We found it in that pub in Winchelsea, just as the barrel was coming to...

Hello Geoff, The photo isn't clear for some reason but perhaps that's because my internet is slow, but I've just seen the original poem and I agree with Mac it's much tighter. I think this section is great: A warrior's soul once melded with the blade, until a musket ball - the modern cutting edge - ...

Thanks Geoff, that is it. I couldn't put my finger on it before. I'd spoilt the metaphor of the underworld - I've taken out the 'man's mind' section. I've posted a revision, it's in a different format and I've added some other changes. Taken out the refraction of thought section too. or have I taken...
