Inspector Boozer
Inspector Barnaby Boozer was played throughout by the actor Barnaby Boozer. Originally a ‘real’ officer in the Broadshire Constabulary, Barnaby Boozer got the acting bug while serving a three-year sentence for drink driving at H.M.P. Hollesley Bay. On his release Barnaby Boozer (the actor) attended a one-day course at C.R.A.P.A. – the Colchester and Rowhedge Academy of Performing Arts - before landing his first professional part as PC Drink-Too-Much in The Bill. Other parts playing policemen with drink problems soon followed, such as: Sergeant Sclerosis in Taggart and Detective Sergeant Dave Hangover in Dalziel and Pascoe. But it was as Inspector Barnaby Boozer - Head of B.U.R.P. ( the Broadshire Unit for Rural Protection) that Barnaby Boozer (the actor and the character) was to became a household name. "Acting, for me," says Barnaby "has always been about playing characters who are totally different from myself."

Inspector Adversary
Inspector Ulysses Adversary is Boozer’s feisty sparring partner at B.U.R.P.. Insanely jealous of Boozer’s amazing 100% clear up rates, Adversary constantly tries to undermine him by playing practical jokes. On one occasion he actually cuts the brakes on the B.U.R.P. Range Rover nearly causing the death of Boozer and Dull in the River Mad. Inspector Adversary was brilliantly played by Bob Violent. Bob started life as a professional kick boxer and hit man for the IRA before turning to acting later in life. " I can totally relate to Adversary’s aggression towards Boozer. In fact, I hate the f#####g t##t. He should never have been given the lead role as he can’t even handle his drink."

Superintendent Vain Superintendent Virgil Vain is Boozer’s immediate boss at B.U.R.P. and was played by the excellent John Moustache. John started life as a lady’s hairdresser and male model before making the jump into acting. "I enjoy playing Supt Vain," says John "as he is a man who always likes to look his best when at work. Some people have said that I am very similar to Vain but I can’t see it myself. For example, Supt Vain has over 500 different shirts, whereas I have only 489."

Sergeant Dull Sergeant Troy Dull is Boozer’s stoic assistant at B.U.R.P. and was played by Dave Quiet. Dave, a newcomer to acting, landed the part of Sgt Dull after a chance meeting with Barnaby Boozer (the actor). "I was driving home one night when Barnaby Boozer (the actor) drove into the back of me. When I said that I wouldn't press charges he was so delighted that he invited me to audition for a part in the new drama series he was making called Inspector Boozer and the Maddingham Murders. I had always, secretly, wanted to be an actor so I jumped at the chance. I was very nervous at the audition but I was determined to just be myself." "Sergeant Dull is a very challenging role for any actor to play as, on paper, he has no actual characteristics."
